Thursday, November 3rd

Today in class the Google sheet was analyzed with the Ice Box Data from all 6th grade classes.  We noticed that styrofoam, plastic, duct tape, wood, paper, cotton balls, bubble wrap and wool made the best insulators.

We worked on page 31 for our notebook which was a handout "What affects weather and climate" and then did an experiment to view for page 32.  Page 32 was a scientific drawing of the experiment and needs to include the following ideas or terms to explain what is going on:

  • hot water, rising, fast particles, less dense
  • cold water, sinking, slow particles, more dense
  • convection
  • energy is transferred
  • thermoequilibrium
Be sure to draw, label, explain and color this diagram to make it understandable about convection and how fluids mix.  Include a label on the jar and the glass vial as well as where air was in the jar.

Hwk tonight:  Study for the test by reading and taking notes on 6.1, 6.10, 6.11, and 6.12 in the textbook.  You may take a one page of handwritten notes that is 8.5 x 11 in size and can be used on the quiz tomorrow.  Questions?  see me tomorrow at start of class before the quiz.  Have a great night!  Mrs. Sanchez
