In class we worked on the Bellringer, then finished our graph and did a short analysis to help us explain the climates for Bouvet Island and Clifden Village, Ireland. The CER is due tomorrow and help is written below to get you organized on how to write up the Claim, Evidence and Reasoning on your worksheet.
Bellringers Week 13 (page 43 of the notebook)
#1 November 21st:
How can you remember the difference between high and low pressure systems? (weather)
Use this video to help you explain it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcMd5rRr2I0
Use meteoblue.com and websearch for Clifden, Ireland:
https://www.meteoblue.com/en/weather/forecast/modelclimate/clifden-village_ireland_10099141
We will add on the data on the same graph and make a key for Bouvet High Temps, Bouvet Low Temps, Clifden High Temps and Clifden Low Temps.
Use a different color for each line that is graphed and all four lines should be on the same paper.
Now last step is to complete the CER worksheet that is due tomorrow!
Question: Can ocean currents affect the climate of a landmass?
Claim: 1-2 sentences to explain that yes we see this happening, yes it does. Be detailed and restate the question in the answer.
Evidence: State the facts of what we know...
Bouvet Isand is located at a latitude of 54 degrees South, on the opposite side of the world Clifden, Ireland is located at a latitude of 54 degrees North.
The Norwegian current is warm, and passes Ireland.
The Antartic Circumpolar current is very cold and moves past Bouvet Island.
Use and cite temperatures and climate data to explain the patterns for both locations. Do not explain what the temperatures mean until you get to the Reasoning section! See below!
Reasoning: Use the evidence above to explain and support that due to currents we have influence on the climate of these two places that are similarly placed in latitude at opposite sides of the world. Why are they different? Would they be the same if the Norwegian current did not exist? Does Europe benefit from the currents. Study the maps as well to get some ideas to explain here in the analysis and reasoning section!
