Happy Monday! We have a very short week before the President's weekend break, and I am out today at the district office with the science teachers for training! In class today you will be doing a peer review, reflection, and editing of your CER. Tomorrow we will discuss it and your parent will need to look over your work to see your progress and level of writing expectation, sign off that they saw your draft, final copy and the student sample.
Today you will be going over the student sample, the sub will read over the example with you. Note that the evidence is matter of fact data, quanititative measurements and qualitative descriptions, no explanations or analysis. The reasoning explains how the data supports your claim. Your claim should be straightforward and to the point, written in third person, so no use of the word "I".
After seeing the sample use a highlighter to match what you did to similar parts of the sample CER, they do not have to be exact word for word sections, simply did you use the same data? same analysis in the writing?
Next you will be assigned to switch table groups, with a colored pen or "red" pens the sub has to borrow, make suggestions on the persons paper. Did they connect the evidence to show a certain characteristic of living things is made? Did they write the evidence descriptively? Make sure you add details and try to ask questions if it is hard to understand what the person is trying to say. Misspelled words or mistakes in grammar can be addressed as well, you are editing so that the revision will be an A paper! Go back to seats when the time is up and you are instructed to do so. The sub will need you then to quietly start the revision.
A typed final copy would be great! A handwritten final copy that is neatly written is acceptable as well. Please work on your revision, it will be due on Tuesday.
Tomorrow I will be going over the test, we will be working on Test corrections and reflections as well as linking your Poster to the video you created for your digital zoo animal. Please do not forget your iPad, it will make it hard to do these steps.
On Wednesday the CER packet is due and you will be working on a fun Cell Project in class. We will be taking photos of our models and revisiting the organelles for another showcase of our work for Open House! :) See you tomorrow, Mrs. Sanchez
